Gel Transfer by Jan McLean

Class description: Introduction to Gel Skin Transfers

Students will learn how to create transfers of printed images for their artwork using acrylic gels and mediums in a method called "Gel Skin Transfers". Basically, the transfer process involves brushing or pouring a thin layer of acrylic medium over the image to be transferred. After drying, the coated image is soaked in water and the backing paper removed, leaving a transparent or translucent image imbedded within the acrylic medium. The image can then be applied to the artwork to create interesting effects. This class will present several ways of creating gel skin transfers, including direct and indirect transfer, and will give the students the tools for further exploration on their own.
