SECOND SESSION OF PIECE TALKS TAKING PLACE ON MAY 1ST

SoBoBo continues in its second session with Piece Talks!

Join in! Meet with Artists and Artisans!

Discussions can only go a certain length of time before mundaneness sets in....
Sometimes one needs to demonstrate to get the point across...

Joyce Densmore, will be on hand to demonstrate how she creates a certain jewelry style!

"My name is Joyce Densmore - my work background is chemical and mechanical engineering, but I've always had an artistic side to balance my engineering side. Whether it was sewing, smocking, painting porcelain dolls, watercolors, or designing jewelry. With my jewelry, I started out working strictly with pearls, I love the organic look and feel of pearls mixed with just about any other stone . I branched out to copper, brass and sterling after taking a metal-smithing class - I like to cold work metal -- bending, hammering, cutting, rolling (I have this very cool rolling mill!) - I find that metal work is a good blend of art and engineering."

Classes Continue at SoBoBo in May

In May, Artist, Jan Mc Lean continues to teach Techniques of Mixed Media Collage - Acrylic Faux Encaustic

"Journey Through X"
Acrylic Faux Encaustic
by Jan McLean

Class Description:

Explore the technique of Acrylic Faux Encaustic. Basically a mixed media collage process done in layers, acrylic faux encaustic provides an alternative process to traditional encaustic, using acrylics to mimic the encaustic look, but without toxic chemicals or heat. Through the application of thick layers of various acrylic gels and mediums, students will create works with both actual physical depth and the illusion of depth, and will be encouraged to layer images, drawings, paint, textures and objects into their works. Beginners welcome. No previous collage experience required.
Click on Masters Of The Arts at the top of the page for more information regarding schedule and registration.
A wonderful opportunity to learn and meet new people.

BIRDS THRILLER

Does anyone remember the Alfred Hitchcock thriller "Birds?" If you do, remember the birds attacking everyone, and even when the actor got into the telephone booth the birds didn't stop? Or even more grotesque, wasn't someone's eye hanging out?...Well, on

Thursday, April 15th

"Birds"

OH!, NO! it's nothing like the movie, it isn't scary at all!! In fact you get to see the beauty, the gracefulness, the natural instincts, the details of each feather that you don't normally see because "Birds" are so skittish of humans that they fly away as soon as you approach.

On Thursday, April 15th
WALNUT BEACH ART STROLL
takes place as you begin your evening at

Firehouse Gallery
for an
Opening Reception from 6pm to 8 pm.

The MFAC is dedicating this exhibit to the late
Gerda DaRif

of wonderful bird creations at the
Milford Firehouse Art Gallery.

Gerda was inspiring, a true professional artist.
She is missed by her many friends and colleagues.

The MFAC Firehouse Art Gallery is proud partner with the Connecticut Audubon Society, the Coastal Center at Milford Point for the exhibit Birds.

There are a variety of birds that make Connecticut their home. The Audubon Society has as their mission the conservation of Connecticut birds and their habitat. For interested public the Society offers many family oriented programs at 1 Milford Point Road in Milford, as well as bird watching field trips.

The award winning pieces from the Bird Show will be displayed at the Audubon Society, One Milford Point Road after the closing of the exhibit at the Firehouse Art Gallery.
